HOME delivered meals with a smile – that is the offer Meals on Wheels has made for the past 50 years. Griffith Meals on Wheels Inc is a participant of the Home & Community Care Program, providing services to frail aged persons, their carers and disadvantaged groups for either a short term or for longer periods.
Clients receive a tasty, nutritious meal delivered by volunteers who have time for a friendly chat. The service works to meet the individual needs, including dietary, medical condition, language, physical ability and personal taste, of clients.
- Daily delivery of hot ready-to-eat meals, with a variety of meal choices delivered at lunch time. These meals are the highest source of nutritional content for clients and include a soup, main meal and dessert.
- Delivery of frozen home-style meals with over 70 choices, including soup and sweets, so the client can choose when to eat. An even larger selection of frozen meals, including gluten-free ones, are available, catering to the needs of multicultural and diabetic clients.
- Volunteers provide daily social interaction, enabling frail older people and younger clients with disabilities and their carers to stay in their own homes.
Meals on Wheels is more than a meal delivery service. Knowing someone will drop by to say hello with a friendly smile and a nutritious meal changes the lives of many Australians and it isn’t just the clients who value the contact.
Volunteers are often the only daily point of contact for recipients, serving to decrease their social isolation and assist in monitoring their health and wellbeing. Simply by delivering a nutritious meal, volunteers build a stronger, more supportive community by providing a level of care that would otherwise not exist.
